Democratic Party: "President Yoon Cannot Avoid Charges of Treason... Must Resign Immediately"

The Democratic Party of Korea stated on the 4th regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's announcement of the lifting of martial law, "He cannot escape the charge of treason," and demanded, "Resign immediately."

Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, said in the early morning about President Yoon's announcement of lifting martial law, "Even if martial law is lifted, he cannot escape the charge of treason," and added, "It has become clear to the entire nation that President Yoon can no longer conduct normal state affairs."

He continued, "He must step down from his position," and said, "Resign immediately. This is the people's command."

Earlier, President Yoon Seok-yeol stated, "I declared martial law with a resolute will to save the nation against anti-state forces that paralyze the essential functions of the state and collapse the liberal democratic constitutional order," and added, "However, just now, there was a request from the National Assembly to lift martial law, so the military forces deployed for martial law duties have been withdrawn." He continued, "I will immediately accept the National Assembly's request through a Cabinet meeting and lift martial law," and said, "Although the Cabinet meeting was convened immediately, the quorum for the resolution has not yet been met due to the early hour, so martial law will be lifted as soon as possible."

President Yoon added, "However, I request the National Assembly to immediately stop the outrageous acts that paralyze the functions of the state through repeated impeachment attempts, legislative obstruction, and budget obstruction."
