Kim Jong-wook, Chief of the Korea Coast Guard, Orders Strengthened Maritime Surveillance at Nationwide Vessels and Substations

Kim Jong-wook, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, held an emergency meeting regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law.


On the night of the 4th, Commissioner Kim presided over a meeting lasting about an hour with senior officials at the rank of Superintendent or higher from the headquarters, discussing the situation following the declaration of martial law and future measures.

Commissioner Kim instructed the strengthening of maritime surveillance by all ships and patrol stations nationwide, and ordered all commanders across the country to strictly maintain their assigned posts and manage the situation. He also urged to "maintain a state of immediate readiness to ensure there are no factors that could cause public inconvenience or threaten safety."


Earlier, on the night of the 3rd, President Yoon announced in an emergency address, "We declare martial law to eradicate pro-North Korean forces and protect the free constitutional order."
