Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Jeju Tourism Organization held the launch ceremony of the ‘Hallasan Santa Plogging Expedition’ at Seongpanak area at 9 a.m. on the 3rd. This is a special project promising coexistence with the nature of Hallasan during the temporary suspension period of the Hallasan exploration reservation system.

The Hallasan Santa Plogging Expedition was planned as part of the ‘Again! Together! Sharing! ON Jeju Travel Jeju Tourism Grand Innovation Appreciation Event.’ It embodies the ESG tourism values pursuing harmonious coexistence of environment and tourism, and carries the meaning of practicing the ‘Promise with Jeju’ campaign.

About 200 participants including over 50 young people recruited through the activity-based social contribution organization ‘Gubo,’ residents, and tourists attended the launch ceremony. The expedition plans to conduct a total of seven plogging activities, four times on the Gwaneumsa course and three times on the Seongpanak course in December. On the first day of the temporary suspension of the reservation exploration system on the 1st, 1,477 people (988 at Seongpanak, 489 at Gwaneumsa) completed the exploration.

The name ‘Hallasan Santa’ carries a special meaning. It expresses both the meaning of climbing as ‘riding Hallasan’ and the idea of being ‘Santa of Hallasan,’ protecting nature and gifting a clean environment to explorers.

Kim Aesuk, Jeju Province Deputy Governor for Political Affairs, said, “The Hallasan Santa Plogging Expedition marks the beginning of a special journey toward sustainable Jeju tourism,” and added, “As it is a meaningful activity that raises awareness of environmental protection and spreads practice, we expect active interest and participation from residents and tourists for Jeju’s beauty and sustainability.”
