KOSPI Recovers Above 2500 on Net Buying by Foreigners and Institutions

The KOSPI rebounded to the 2500 level, rising nearly 2% thanks to combined net buying by foreigners and institutions.

On the 3rd, the KOSPI closed at 2500.10, up 45.62 points (1.86%) from the previous trading day.


From the start of trading, the index rose nearly 1% due to simultaneous net buying by foreigners and institutions. Especially in the afternoon, foreigners expanded their net buying, further widening the gains. The KOSPI ultimately closed above the 2500 mark.


By investor type, foreigners and institutions net bought 540.6 billion KRW and 278.9 billion KRW respectively. Conversely, individuals net sold 835.3 billion KRW.


Most sectors rose, with insurance, securities, and steel & metals gaining more than 4%. Machinery, chemicals, distribution, food & beverages, and textiles & apparel all jumped over 2%. Meanwhile, telecommunications and electricity & gas sectors saw slight declines.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 53,600 KRW, unchanged from the previous trading day. Korea Zinc surged 9.28%, while KB Financial, Kia, and Shinhan Financial Group rose more than 4%. SK Hynix increased by 3.84%, and NAVER and Samsung C&T rose over 2%. On the other hand, Hyundai Mobis and POSCO Holdings fell more than 1%.


On this day’s KOSPI, 735 stocks rose, including two stocks hitting the upper price limit: Yuyu Pharma 1st Preferred and Yuyu Pharma 2nd Preferred B. Meanwhile, 166 stocks declined without hitting the lower limit, and 37 stocks remained unchanged.


The KOSDAQ closed at 690.80, up 14.96 points (2.21%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, foreigners net bought 232.8 billion KRW, while individuals and institutions net sold 220.8 billion KRW and 21.3 billion KRW respectively.


By sector, chemicals rose 6.32%, and other services jumped 4.52%. Pharmaceuticals increased 3.02%, and textiles & apparel, distribution, manufacturing, and other manufacturing sectors all gained more than 2%. Meanwhile, entertainment & culture, publishing & media, and paper & wood sectors saw slight declines.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Alteogen closed at 325,000 KRW, up 23,000 KRW (7.62%) from the previous trading day. Enchem surged 20.07%. Ligand Bio rose 7.87%, and HLB and Samchundang Pharmaceutical increased more than 3%. Conversely, EcoPro and JYP Entertainment fell more than 2%.


On this day’s KOSDAQ, 1,129 stocks rose, including six stocks hitting the upper price limit such as Cellid and Genomictree. Meanwhile, 465 stocks declined without hitting the lower limit, and 101 stocks remained unchanged.
