Fostering Pride in War Veterans
Teaching Descendants the Value of Freedom
Miryang City in Gyeongnam held the 60th anniversary commemoration ceremony of the Vietnam War participation on the 3rd at the city hall auditorium, hosted by the Vietnam War Veterans Association Miryang Branch.
The event was organized to honor the sacrifices of Vietnam War veterans and strengthen solidarity. About 200 people attended, including Mayor An Byeong-gu, Chairman Heo Hong of the City Council, heads of institutions and organizations, Vietnam War veterans, and families of patriots.
Additionally, a video screening of war experience stories of Vietnam War veterans, produced as part of the veterans' footprint documentation project, a webtoon exhibition, and a photo zone were operated to boost the pride of the veterans and inform future generations about the value of freedom.
Branch President Lee Seung-hyun said, “I express my respect for the sacrifices and dedication of comrades who worked for world peace 60 years ago,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to contribute to the nation and society and further elevate the status of the Vietnam War Veterans Association.”
Mayor An Byeong-gu stated, “I deeply thank and respect the noble sacrifices and dedication of the veterans who risked their lives for the country in a distant foreign land, leaving their beloved families at a young age,” and added, “Miryang City will actively promote veterans’ policies that provide comfort to the hearts of veterans and their families.”
