Scheduled for completion in the second half of 2027 with a project cost of 23.7 billion KRW

JDS Comprehensive Architectural Office and one other selected for design

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) is transforming Gangnam Elementary School, which is being promoted as part of the ‘Ulsan Identity’ Green Smart Future School project, into a village-like future-oriented school.

With a project budget of 23.7 billion KRW, the school will be a three-story building with a total area of 10,455㎡, consisting of 27 classes (20 general classes, 3 special classes, and 4 kindergarten classes), designed as a space where students can freely play, learn, and grow like in a small village.

Centered around the Dream Green three-dimensional library, various sizes of learning spaces will be provided to allow students to study and collaborate freely. Open and closed spaces will be appropriately arranged to create an environment where students can communicate and interact freely.

In particular, an outdoor yard will be created between the annex and the main building to provide a space where students can move conveniently and play energetically.

Advanced facilities such as energy saving (zero energy), green buildings, Barrier-Free (BF) certification, and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) will be introduced to create a safe and comfortable learning environment.

Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2025 and be completed in the second half of 2027.

The Ulsan Office of Education recently announced the winning design for Gangnam Elementary School. The winning entry was jointly submitted by JDS Comprehensive Architectural Office and J& Comprehensive Architectural Office.

The grand prize was awarded to the joint submission by Hak Architectural Office, Woojae Architectural Office, and Dada Architectural Office, while the excellence award went to the joint submission by Jeongil Engineering Comprehensive Architectural Office and Naedam Architectural Office.

A representative from the Green Smart Future School Promotion Team stated, “We will actively reflect the opinions of faculty and students during the reconstruction of the existing school to create the optimal learning space.”
