The Jangam Arboretum Development Project is being carried out on approximately 300,000 pyeong of forest land that has been neglected and left barren due to regulations such as development restriction zones and military facility protection zones. The city is cultivating and preserving this area as a forest with high ecological and environmental value, transforming it into a ‘nature-friendly arboretum’ where citizens can access more conveniently and safely.

As part of this project, the Jangam Forest Neulpum-gil trail was created along a 1.9 km section from the entrance of Dongmakgol Underpass in Jangam-dong to Jangam Island Castle. The city installed a wooden deck (toetmaru) and coir mats, opening the trail in February, and it is currently being used by many citizens as a convenient walking path.

To improve the scenery around the walking trail, the city planted 127 cherry trees to create a cherry blossom path. Evergreen trees, arrowwood, Kerria japonica, and pink velvet plants were also planted to provide seasonal beauty.

Additionally, in areas close to the road, strobe pine trees were planted as a screen to create a cozier walking environment than before, and it is expected to offer many visitors a beautiful view during the flowering season next year.

After the site inspection, Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “Since an arboretum is not created in a short period, we will focus all our capabilities on developing Jangam Arboretum as a nature-friendly arboretum beyond a one-sided and uniform development centered on the city government.”
