The 10th Goyang-si Disabled Community Sports Festival Held

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan: "We Will Create a Happy City by Promoting Sports for People with Disabilities"
Expanding the Base of Community Sports through Various Sports Activities and Competitions

The Gyeonggi Goyang City Disabled Sports Association (President Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 3rd that it held the "2024 Goyang Special City Disabled Harmony Sports Festival," where disabled and non-disabled people understand and unite through sports activities, at the Goyang Eoullim Nuri Gymnasium on the 2nd.

This event is a communication platform eagerly awaited by disabled people in the area, marking its 10th edition this year. About 700 disabled and non-disabled athletes participated in this event, including 10 sports organizations such as the Goyang City Disabled Badminton Association, 2 special classes such as Seojeong High School, various groups by type such as the Association of the Visually Impaired, and related organizations such as Joeunnamu Joeun Yeolmae.


The event proceeded with an opening ceremony, followed by sports activities in the form of a cheerful sports day and harmony events such as talent shows. The participating athletes enjoyed both the sports and harmony events, spending time where disabled and non-disabled people came together.


At the opening ceremony, Lee Dong-hwan, President of the Goyang City Disabled Sports Association and Mayor of Goyang Special City, encouraged the athletes, saying, "I believe that citizens' health is the foundation for realizing a happy city. There should be no discrimination while pursuing happiness," and added, "Goyang Special City will create a city where everyone is happy together through the revitalization of disabled people's recreational sports."


Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony, a business agreement was also signed between the Goyang City Disabled Sports Association and Joongbu University for the development of disabled sports in Goyang City. Through this agreement, Goyang City and Joongbu University agreed to jointly discover industry-academic cooperation activities to contribute to community development and to mutually cooperate for the advancement of disabled sports.
