The First Achievement of Ahyeon-dong Silppuri Welfare Companion Group for Realizing Detailed Silppuri Welfare at the Dong Level
Companion Group, Dong Resident Center Staff, and Local Residents Help with Moving and Cleaning Together
A disabled couple living in a cramped and poor house without a bathroom safely moved to a warm and comfortable new home, a rental apartment in Seongsan-dong, with the help of the Ahyeon-dong Silppuri Welfare Companion Group of Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su).
On the morning of December 2, the home of Mr. Kim OO and Mrs. Seo OO, who were living in a commercial space inside Ahyeon Market, was bustling with helping hands for their move.
About 30 people, including Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, members of the Ahyeon-dong Silppuri Welfare Companion Group, staff from the Ahyeon-dong Community Center, and local residents, participated in the move by carrying the moving boxes and cleaning.
The move was completed in about three hours. The Kim couple, who relocated to their new home, were deeply moved by the improved living environment and repeatedly expressed their apologies and gratitude to the participants who helped from early morning.
This moving support was the first project achieved through the warm interest and active efforts of the Ahyeon-dong Silppuri Welfare Companion Group, launched on November 6 to realize detailed Silppuri welfare at the neighborhood level.
The Companion Group, which was looking out for neighbors in need, heard that the physically challenged Kim couple was moving to a rental apartment and decided to help with the move directly to reduce the couple’s financial burden and support a stable life.
After completing the moving support, Baek Mi-kyung, leader of the Ahyeon-dong Silppuri Welfare Companion Group, said, “It is very rewarding that the Kim couple could move to a warm and safe home before the colder winter arrives,” and added, “We will work even more actively with the members to ensure that all our neighbors can be happy without being left out.”
Along with this, the Companion Group announced plans to provide home appliances and household goods to fill the new home with warmth, with the help of the local community.
Mapo-gu expects that the results of this Companion Group will not only be the first step for the welfare recipients’ new start but also the beginning of participatory welfare where the local community acts together, serving as a catalyst to realize Mapo-gu’s unique Silppuri welfare vision.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Silppuri welfare, where local residents connect to solve and share neighbors’ difficulties, starts from small interests,” and added, “I sincerely thank the Ahyeon-dong Silppuri Welfare Companion Group for their efforts for our neighbors, and Mapo-gu will do its best to ensure that the Silppuri welfare system takes deeper root in the local community.”
