Certified exporters refer to those recognized by customs authorities as having the capability to certify the origin of goods based on FTAs. They are granted the authority to issue certificates of origin or benefits such as simplified submission of supporting documents.
Recently, requests for origin verification by customs authorities of partner countries have been steadily increasing for goods exported under the Korea-EU, Korea-Turkiye, Korea-ASEAN FTAs, and the Korea-India CEPA. Accordingly, the importance of thorough origin management by Korean companies to prepare for such verifications is growing.
The training, attended by over 120 trading companies, included lectures on the indirect verification procedures of FTA origin, where the customs of partner countries request confirmation from Korean customs regarding the appropriateness of preferential tariffs under FTAs. It also covered verification trends and key cases by agreement, as well as core points of origin management for companies that have obtained certified exporter status. Individual consultations related to origin verification were also conducted after the seminar.
Meanwhile, KITA provides free telephone consultation services on product classification, FTA preferential tariff analysis, origin determination criteria, and post-verification through the FTA1380 call center. In addition, customized in-depth consulting by experts such as customs brokers is supported through the FTA integrated platform with on-site visits to companies.
