Kim Dong-yeon Visits Pyeongtaek and Anseong Snowstorm Damage Sites, "Will Request Special Disaster Area Declaration"

Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, visited the site of the complete destruction of greenhouses in Habuk-ri, Jinwi-myeon, Pyeongtaek City, and stated that he would request the government to declare the area a special disaster zone. He also said that even if the special disaster zone is declared, it would take time, so Gyeonggi Province and Pyeongtaek City will find ways to provide support as quickly as possible.

The area of Habuk-ri, Jinwi-myeon, Pyeongtaek, where Governor Kim is considering requesting the special disaster zone declaration, received 113 damage reports due to heavy snowfall, with the damaged area reaching 226,000㎡, including greenhouses and agricultural warehouses.

While inspecting the greenhouse cultivating cherry tomatoes that were destroyed by the heavy snow, Governor Kim said, "The damage to greenhouse farmers is severe, so I canceled other schedules this morning and came immediately. Seeing the site, the scale of the damage is larger than expected, and there seem to be many difficulties, so Gyeonggi Province will first work with Pyeongtaek City to find the best possible solutions."

He continued, "We will review the use of disaster relief funds as well as contingency funds and do everything possible with the city as quickly as possible. We will also request the central government to designate Pyeongtaek City as a special disaster zone together," emphasizing, "The most necessary thing is swift action for damage recovery within the shortest possible time."

Following his visit to Pyeongtaek, Governor Kim visited the site of a factory collapse and nearby destroyed livestock facilities in Bogae-myeon, Anseong City, for the second time.

On the night of the 28th of last month, due to concentrated snowfall, a factory building of 6,153㎡ collapsed, and 15 livestock facilities covering 7,110㎡ were destroyed.

This visit related to the heavy snowfall is Governor Kim’s third site inspection, following the Dokkaebi Market in Uiwang City on the 28th and the Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market in Anyang City on the 29th of last month.

Earlier, on the 28th of last month, when heavy snow fell in Gyeonggi Province, Governor Kim held an emergency video conference on snow countermeasures and declared a "war against snow," issuing four directives: ▲emergency evacuation measures for residents of vulnerable residential facilities such as greenhouses ▲prevention of safety accidents at construction sites ▲rapid and proactive snow removal operations ▲conducting surveys and seeking support measures for small business owners affected economically.
