Japan Friendly Cooperation City Niigata Citizen Exchange Group Visits Ulsan

Resuming After 50,000 Years Since COVID-19, Home Experiences and Citizen Exchanges

Ulsan City announced on the 1st that the citizen exchange group of its sister city Niigata City, Japan, called the ‘Niigata-Ulsan Friendship Association,’ has been visiting Ulsan from November 30 to December 2.

The Niigata-Ulsan Friendship Association is a citizen exchange group organized under the leadership of Niigata City Hall to promote Ulsan, a sister city, and supports activities such as Korean language study, Korean culture lectures, and Ulsan-Niigata citizen exchanges.

To promote private exchanges between Ulsan and Niigata, the citizen exchange group ‘Meeting to Love Niigata,’ formed by private organizations in Ulsan, has been conducting mutual visit events biennially since 2010.

The exchanges were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 but have resumed after five years.

They explore Ulsan’s attractions such as Taehwagang National Garden and Daewangam Park, and experience Korean culture through homestays and citizen exchange meetings.

An official from Ulsan City said, “Niigata is the city with the most active citizen exchanges among Ulsan’s sister and friendship cities,” adding, “Ulsan City will continue to support various exchange activities to further strengthen friendship and cooperation with Niigata City.”

Since signing the sister city agreement on September 21, 2006, Ulsan City and Niigata City have actively exchanged in various fields such as culture and arts, environment, and youth exchanges, and have sent performance groups to each other’s city festivals.
