Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, has appointed his close aide, former Secretary of Defense Chief of Staff Kashy Patel, as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
On the 30th (local time), Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that "Patel will serve as the next FBI Director," adding, "Kashy is an outstanding lawyer and investigator who exposes corruption and upholds justice." He also described Patel as "a warrior of America First who has built a career protecting Americans."
Patel served as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense during the final months of Trump's first administration when the Department of Defense was operating under an acting secretary system. He was also considered a candidate for senior positions at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and FBI toward the end of Trump's first term. Patel is classified as a loyalist, following Trump’s claims that the FBI was corrupt and politically organized.
