On the 30th, the People Power Party urged the Democratic Party of Korea to "stop the rampage," calling their push to impeach Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hae and their unilateral passage of next year's budget bill a "de facto legislative coup."
Bae Jun-young, the party's senior deputy floor leader, stated in a press release that "The recent behavior of the Democratic Party is nothing less than a de facto legislative coup aimed at halting the government. They are abusing their majority power by repeatedly pushing for the impeachment of prosecutors, the impeachment of the Board of Audit and Inspection chairman, and special investigations, ultimately cutting essential government budgets to overturn the country."
Spokesperson Kim Yeon-joo also commented, "The attempt to impeach the chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, an institution whose independence is constitutionally guaranteed, is utterly incomprehensible," adding, "Moreover, Chairman Choi was appointed during the previous Moon Jae-in administration. Attempting impeachment now can only be interpreted as politically motivated."
Kim further argued regarding the Democratic Party's unilateral passage of the budget bill the day before, "Can you confidently say this has nothing to do with Representative Lee Jae-myung's judicial risks?" and insisted, "If the Democratic Party claims to be a public party that understands the hardships of the people, they must stop their rampage immediately."
