E. coli Detected in Popular Ice Cream... Company Announces Immediate Recall and Returns

MFDS Orders Suspension and Recall of 'Low-Sugar Danpatbar' Sales

LaLa Sweet, an ice cream manufacturer known to have detected Escherichia coli, apologized, stating, "We confirmed the issue as some distributed products exceeded the standard limits."

The company stated, "The low-sugar red bean bar (manufactured by Donggreen, October 8, 2024) received a product recall order from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety due to exceeding the bacterial count standard during product recall inspection, and we intend to immediately recall the product."

The problematic products were sold through LaLa Sweet's own online store, Market Kurly, Baedal Minjok, Coupang, and SSG.com. All shipments have been suspended, and recall measures have been initiated. Refunds can be requested through the LaLa Sweet website.

The company added, "We are conducting a full inspection of all products currently on sale, including the problematic ones," and "We will thoroughly check the distribution channels and production processes to ensure quality control and prevent such incidents from recurring."

LaLa Sweet ranked first in ice cream sales at CU last summer with its Matcha Choco Bar. This was the first time in eight years since 2017 that World Cone lost the top spot in ice cream sales at CU.
