The awarded forest road facility connects the existing forest road (10.2km) and the abandoned national road (3.2km) in Gamjeong-ri, Dong-myeon, Chuncheon City, San 149-13 area, creating an integrated forest road network combining national, public, and private forests. This has improved wildfire suppression efficiency and revitalized forest management.

The forest road design minimized the damaged area of cut and fill slopes, and all trees generated during road construction were removed outside the mountain area. Residual materials were crushed to enhance the forest landscape, and eco-friendly ecological restoration methods were applied to stabilize the slopes.

Additionally, rocks generated during excavation were used to stabilize the fill slopes through rock fill methods. Techniques such as filling cross drains and roadside ditches with gravel were applied to prevent erosion of the road surface and ditches during heavy rain, resulting in a disaster-safe and visually excellent forest road that received high praise.

This competition is held annually by the Korea Forest Service to discover and promote excellent cases of forest road facilities, which are the infrastructure for forest management and administration, focusing on efficient route selection, construction, and enhanced disaster safety technologies.

An Jung-gi, Director of the Gangwon Province Forest Environment Bureau, stated, “Forest road facilities are the foundation for forest management and administration, and we plan to continuously expand disaster-safe and highly usable forest roads.” He added, “In particular, we will expand themed forest roads for forest recreation and sports such as walking competitions, mountain marathons, and mountain biking, striving to develop forest roads as tourism resources.”
