Through this business agreement, the three organizations plan to take the lead in promoting wood culture and wood education by implementing various policies to promote the use of wood and the spread of wood culture, cooperating in on-site demonstrations, and providing technology and knowledge, along with the Carbon Neutral Wood Education Comprehensive Center being established in Mokhyeon-dong, Gwangju City.
The contents of the business agreement include △ cooperation in establishing a mid- to long-term roadmap for research, development, and dissemination of wood culture △ cooperation in developing content to activate wood education within public education such as schools △ mutual cooperation for the activation of wood culture and wood education, including promotional projects to spread positive awareness of wood.
Prior to this, the city changed the name of the ‘Climate Environment Bureau’ to the ‘Climate Forest Bureau’ through an organizational restructuring in September and newly established the Forest and Forest Culture Team to actively promote various policies aimed at expanding the foundation of forest projects and broadening the base of forest culture in the carbon-neutral era.
Scheduled for completion in September 2026, the Wood Education Comprehensive Center will play a pivotal role in expanding carbon-neutral and wood culture education and experiences for future generations and spreading wood culture.
In particular, through this business agreement, it is expected that Gwangju City will become a representative city realizing carbon neutrality and wood culture by promoting comprehensive forest-friendly policies that combine the knowledge of the National Institute of Forest Science and the experience of the Wood Culture Promotion Association.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “Through this agreement, we plan to take the lead in promoting various carbon-neutral policies, including the successful establishment and operation of the Carbon Neutral Wood Education Comprehensive Center, with the goal of ‘realizing carbon neutrality and efficient utilization of forest assets.’”
