A forum discussing ‘Integrated Care and Integrated Case Management Linkage and Implications for Regional Governance’ among Korea, Japan, and the United States was held in Gwangju.
Park Mi-jung, a member of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party, Dong-gu 2), attended as a panelist at the ‘Korean Society of Integrated Case Management 2024 Fall International Conference’ held on the 29th in the city hall’s medium conference room, introducing ‘Gwangju-style Integrated Care’ and explaining the importance of the role of local councils and the linkage between integrated care and case management.
The conference was jointly hosted by the Korean Society of Integrated Case Management, Gwangju City, and the Gyeongsang National University Women’s Research Institute.
In the discussion, Councilor Park stated, “The ‘Gwangju-style Integrated Care’ based on the Gwangju City ordinance involved a significant role of the Gwangju City Council from public-private-government consultations for policy establishment to securing the budget.”
She continued, “Since the policy was first implemented nationwide in April last year, it has achieved results by providing 43,700 care services to over 17,000 citizens,” and explained, “In March this year, Gwangju took the lead in enacting the regional ‘Integrated Care Support Act,’ which is scheduled for nationwide implementation in 2026.”
Councilor Park also emphasized, “The remaining task is to organize the support system, with integrated case management at its core,” and stressed, “Through the linkage of integrated care and integrated case management, more long-term and comprehensive support should be provided to welfare service vulnerable groups.”
Meanwhile, Councilor Park added, “For the realization of regionally tailored care, the active role of local councils in ordinance enactment, budget allocation, and evaluation is more important than anything else.”
