Presentation of Next Year's 'City Administration Direction' in the Policy Speech
Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo City, announced the direction of city administration and budget allocation for 2025 during the 2nd regular session of the 394th Mokpo City Council.
Mayor Park emphasized, "This year, after a long wait, we demonstrated the unity of our citizens to resolve long-standing projects," and added, "Next year, despite difficult financial conditions, we will strive to foster future strategic industries and create a city of citizen happiness."
First, he introduced last year's major achievements, including the designation of pilot areas for the Opportunity Development Zone and Education Development Zone, and the establishment of an eco-friendly ammonia fuel supply system for ships. He also mentioned various accomplishments such as the groundbreaking of the Mokpo Fisheries Food Export Complex, record-breaking seaweed industry performance, and the railway facility relocation project.
Based on these achievements, the city will focus its administrative capabilities on stabilizing the livelihood of ordinary citizens and creating growth engines next year, ensuring that the key policies pursued so far yield concrete results.
First, the city plans to foster the offshore wind power industry and eco-friendly ship industry, and implement population growth policies to respond to the crisis of regional extinction.
In particular, through the integration of Mokpo and Sinan, efforts will be concentrated on nurturing future talents and creating jobs for young people. The city also plans to support youth capacity building and startups through pilot projects in the Education Development Zone and the establishment of a youth startup incubating platform.
By 2026, the Fisheries Food Export Complex will be completed to foster the seaweed industry, and competitiveness will be strengthened through the high value-added processing of fisheries food products.
Mayor Park Hong-ryul stated, "Following the government's continuous sound fiscal policy, our city's finances next year are also expected to face difficult times, but based on the united strength of citizens for Mokpo's next 100 years, we will create a better future together," and added, "Next year, we will do our best to ensure Mokpo develops further and brings about changes that citizens can feel."
Meanwhile, Mokpo City has prepared a budget proposal of 1.0028 trillion KRW (913.3 billion KRW for the general account and 89.5 billion KRW for the special account) for next year and submitted it to the city council. This is an increase of 1.87% compared to this year's original budget.
