Universal Robots, which launched the world's first commercial collaborative robot in 2008, has led the industry by selling more than 90,000 collaborative robots worldwide to date. The e-Series collaborative robots from Universal Robots have a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 85,000 hours on average. A Universal Robots representative explained, "We always tell our customers that there are no breakdowns," adding, "The decision to establish the first service center domestically is to reassure customers as the cumulative number of units increases."
CEO Povlsen also introduced the newly launched ‘UR AI (Artificial Intelligence) Accelerator’ this year. This platform is a software and hardware toolkit that supports AI-based application implementation on collaborative robots. Partners in various countries can customize desired solutions directly through this platform. He said, “Simplifying advanced functions is the core of automation,” and added, “AI has already established itself as a technology that is changing the landscape of robotics.”
Korea is the world’s 4th largest industrial robot market, with 1,012 robots used per 10,000 employees, which is six times the global average. Universal Robots provides customized automation solutions for various industries in the Korean market, including automotive, shipbuilding, semiconductors, and secondary batteries.
In particular, welding automation using collaborative robots is gaining attention in the shipbuilding industry. On the 28th, CEO Povlsen visited the HD Hyundai Samho shipyard in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, to check the status of collaborative robot adoption. HD Hyundai Samho is automating welding processes using Universal Robots’ collaborative robots. Universal Robots also supplies collaborative robots to shipbuilders such as HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Mipo.
CEO Povlsen said, “Thanks to 19 years of user-friendly design and strict quality control, we have established ourselves as a trusted company worldwide,” and added, “We will actively support the automation journey of Korean companies.” He continued, “We will continue to open the future of collaborative robots and provide automation to anyone, anywhere, and for everyone,” emphasizing the commitment.
