Gwangju City Hosts the 10th Gwangju Royal Ceramics Special Exhibition

Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) announced on the 29th that it will hold the "10th Gwangju Royal Ceramics Special Exhibition: Baekja World (白磁世上)" at the Insadong Korean Art Museum from December 4 to 10.

This special exhibition was prepared to widely promote the excellence of Gwangju royal ceramics, which led the Joseon white porcelain culture in Gwangju, where the Saongwon branch office that produced royal utensils for over 500 years during the Joseon Dynasty was established.


Under the theme of "Baekja World," this exhibition will showcase a variety of works ranging from representative pieces of Joseon white porcelain to ceramics with modern interpretations. Visitors will be greeted by works including white porcelain tea sets, moon jars, and unique white porcelain patterns.


In particular, the exhibition includes works presented by master craftsmen of Gwangju royal ceramics, making it a great opportunity to reexamine the excellence and tradition of local pottery.


The exhibited works consist of various ceramics that combine traditional white porcelain techniques with unique aesthetic values and modern sensibilities. Visitors can experience the deep history and beauty of Gwangju royal ceramics up close through this exhibition.


Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, "Through this Gwangju Royal Ceramics Special Exhibition, I hope it will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the dignity of the Joseon royal family and the beautiful spirit pursued by noble scholars, and to widely promote Gwangju as the true birthplace of Joseon white porcelain."
