[Featured Stock] K-Lens to be Mounted on SpaceX Satellites... LK Samyang Challenges for Space Industry Supremacy

Joint Development Cooperation of Next-Generation Star Tracker for Deep Space Navigation with Telepix

LK Samyang is showing strong performance. The news that it has developed lenses used in vision detectors for small satellites and is supplying them B2B, thereby laying the groundwork to enter the optical module market for satellites, appears to be influencing its stock price. In the first half of this year, LK Samyang began joint development of a next-generation star tracker for deep space navigation in collaboration with Telepix, a domestic satellite bus developer. It is also expanding its lineup of drone-specific AF lenses ODM to two models and proceeding with mass production.

As of 9:56 AM on the 29th, LK Samyang is trading at 3,195 KRW, up 16.61% from the previous day.

According to LK Samyang’s quarterly report, it is reviewing technology and market opportunities to add to its lineup of telecentric lenses, which have high demand in MV lenses. It is developing a wide-angle infrared lens (LWIR) for drones that can be used in thermal imaging cameras and plans to expand development of lenses in the infrared spectrum such as SWIR lenses in the future. Additionally, to participate in the aerospace market, it is continuously receiving development requests and manufacturing prototypes of lenses used in vision detectors for small satellites. It also announced that it is promoting the development of optical systems for star trackers for satellites in collaboration with domestic satellite-specialized companies.

Gu Bon-wook, CEO of LK Samyang, recently expressed confidence in an interview with an economic magazine that the company can play an important role in the aerospace sector, especially in the field of optical solutions for small satellites. He stated, "We are jointly developing a next-generation star tracker for deep space navigation with the satellite image analysis solution startup Telepix. We plan to complete development within this year and test the performance of our lenses in space by equipping them on satellites launched by SpaceX next year."

LK Samyang’s main business is the development, production, and sales of interchangeable camera lenses used for photography and video shooting. It is the only global optical specialist company in Korea that designs, processes, assembles, and sells lenses. Based on over 50 years of accumulated technology since its establishment, it sells products to more than 70 countries worldwide.

Recently, LK Samyang signed an MOU with AutoL, a LiDAR solution development specialist, to develop integrated fire, safety, and security solutions. The two companies plan to provide solutions and services covering the entire spectrum of fire, safety, and security to various customer groups by integrating their respective intelligent control technologies and wide-area sensing technologies. AutoL is a leading domestic LiDAR company that has passed Hyundai Motor’s ES test, a quality specification and environmental durability certification for autonomous driving LiDAR systems.

Shim Seo-hyun, a NICE D&B expert, explained, "Through optical design technology, lens manufacturing technology, and mechanical design technology, LK Samyang is expanding its business into optical systems for vehicles/autonomous driving and satellites. It has laid the groundwork to enter the optical module market for satellites."
