Utilization of Specialized Equipment Around Subway Stations and Excavation Sites
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) announced on the 29th that it has conducted a "Joint Investigation of Subsidence Risk Cavities" over a period of six months from May to this month to prevent road collapse accidents.
The target areas were subsidence risk zones within the district, including Sajik-dong, Jongno 1, 2, 3, and 4 ga-dong, Jongno 5 and 6 ga-dong, Sungin 1-dong, and Sungin 2-dong. These areas encompass subway stations, excavation sites, locations with a history of cavity occurrences, and regions with numerous water and sewage pipes, covering a total length of 40.8 km including both roads and sidewalks.
The investigation was divided into three phases: before the rainy season in June, after the rainy season in August, and before the winter season in October. In the first phase, ground-penetrating radar equipment was used for exploration and analysis. In the second phase, holes up to 1 meter deep were drilled using a drilling machine, followed by inspection with an endoscope.
As a result, out of the seven cavities discovered, five were promptly repaired by injecting eco-friendly flowable filler material to prevent any potential safety accidents. For the other areas, the causes of cavity formation were thoroughly investigated further, followed by excavation and restoration, creating a road environment free from concerns about ground subsidence.
District Mayor Jeong Munheon emphasized, "We aimed to proactively respond to cavity occurrences, which are considered the main cause of road collapse, to prevent any possible accidents," adding, "We will do our best to create a safe and secure city where citizens can live with peace of mind."
