Daehan Electric Wire & Cable has partnered with a global offshore wind developer to advance a 1125-megawatt (MW) offshore wind project in Incheon.

On the 29th, Daehan Electric Wire & Cable announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ocean Winds, a Spanish offshore wind power company, to mutually cooperate on offshore wind power projects on the Korean Peninsula.


Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate to enhance synergies in the development of a 1125 MW offshore wind farm project underway in the exclusive economic zone of Incheon. They will seek cooperation in various areas including stabilizing the supply chain for submarine cables suitable for the project, monitoring market trends, and exchanging information.


Ocean Winds is a global offshore wind power company established as a joint venture between the French energy company Engie and the Portuguese energy company EDP Renewables. It operates, constructs, and develops 16 offshore wind power projects across eight regions worldwide, including the Incheon offshore wind project, France, the United States, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.


Guzman Figar, head of Ocean Winds Korea, said, "Strengthening the supply chain for Korean offshore wind power equipment will greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and creating quality jobs," adding, "We will explore various ways to grow together with Daehan Electric Wire & Cable."


Joo Hyung-gyun, executive director of Daehan Electric Wire & Cable’s Submarine Business Division, emphasized, "Through cooperation with Ocean Winds, a world-class offshore wind company, we will further enhance the global competitiveness of our submarine cable business," and added, "We will achieve results in various offshore wind projects both domestically and internationally."
