"Civic Group's Claim of 'Preselected Candidate Site' Is Not True"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has refuted claims by some civic groups that the Army Aviation Unit relocation candidate site has been designated in Pogok-eup, and has urged investors to exercise caution.
On the 29th, Yongin City issued a press release stating that the recent claim by the Yongin Development Civic Coalition (tentative name) regarding the "designation of the aviation unit relocation candidate site" is "a false claim that is clearly contrary to the facts." Earlier, this group asserted at a forum held at the Yongin Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the 25th that "the relocation candidate site for the aviation unit has been designated" and urged the city to promptly carry out procedures such as submitting the results of resident meetings to the Ministry of National Defense.
The city explained, "Unlike general projects, the relocation of the aviation unit requires large-scale investment and must go through various processes such as resolving complaints arising from the relocation, so it requires thorough review and a long time to reach a conclusion." It also stated, "There have been cases where some developers have encouraged investment," and expressed the position, "We hope people will not be misled by claims that are not based on facts."
A city official emphasized, "Relocating the aviation unit would be subject to regulations such as designation of a military protection zone, and cooperation from surrounding local governments is also necessary," adding, "So far, there is no site under consideration as a candidate."
The official added, "Relocating a military unit requires comprehensive review of various issues and coordination of interests, so there are many hurdles to overcome," and urged, "If there are people impersonating project implementers and soliciting investments, please be especially cautious."
