Actress Kim Sung-eun (34), a graduate of Dongduk Women's University, voiced criticism of her alma mater's current students' 'racket son-in-law' protests.
On the 28th, Kim Sung-eun shared a post on her social media account criticizing the Dongduk Women's University protests. The post included a photo from the protest with the caption, "Please stop the low-level and extremely crude forced protests. We condemn the indoctrination of women's university ideology and feminism." The photo showed a door with red lacquer writing that read, "Buy me a house too. You spent all our money and even made it coeducational?" Around the door were slogans alongside a photo of Kim Myung-ae, president of Dongduk Women's University, such as "Kim Myung-ae OUT," "Resign honorably," "President, communicate with students instead of ignoring them," "Don't disregard students' opinions," "Students are the owners of Dongduk," "Pro-Japanese chairman, get out of Dongduk," and "Protect Dongduk Women's University."
Some netizens who saw this expressed sympathy and encouragement for Kim Sung-eun with comments like, "It's an era where speaking the truth leads to terrorism; you are courageous," "Cool and even cooler," "As expected of Midal, cheering for you," and "If you face cyberbullying, ignore it and respond legally." However, others criticized her, saying things like, "As a senior, don't you try to understand your juniors at your alma mater?"
On the afternoon of the 20th, students of Dongduk Women's University in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, held a general student meeting on the campus sports field and conducted a vote for and against the 'Engineering Conversion of Dongduk Women's University.' Photo by Yonhap News.
Earlier, on the 11th, Dongduk Women's University students occupied buildings and refused classes in protest against the university's discussion of transitioning to coeducation. After ten days, on the 21st, a second meeting between the student representatives and the university's vice presidents resulted in an agreement to lift the occupation of buildings except for the main hall. However, at the third meeting on the 25th, both sides failed to reach a consensus, and the protests intensified again. The university claimed that the damages caused by the protests ranged from a minimum of 2.4 billion KRW to a maximum of 5.4 billion KRW.
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, referred to this situation, posting, "The perpetrators of the violent incidents must be held legally responsible." In response, Jin Sung-jun, policy chief of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized, "They are trying to exploit even the Dongduk Women's University incident as political fuel," adding, "The root cause lies in the university authorities' 'undemocratic' approach of pushing for coeducation without informing the university community, especially the students."
Meanwhile, Kim Sung-eun began her career as a child actress in 1998, playing Park Mi-dal in the SBS sitcom 'Soonpoong Clinic,' gaining nationwide love thanks to the show's popularity. She later appeared in works such as 'School Legend,' 'The Maiden Ghost,' 'People in the Alley,' 'Potato Star 2013QR3,' and 'NEW Love and War.' It is known that she was admitted to Dongduk Women's University's Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment through the special talent admission for acting in 2010 and completed her bachelor's degree there. In June, she held a wedding ceremony with a non-celebrity man.
