Election Voter Turnout is 69.21%
The Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (JeonGyoJo) announced on the 28th that Park Young-hwan, head of the Chungnam branch, was elected as the 22nd chairman.
Park, along with his running mate Yang Hye-jung, elected as secretary-general, secured 50.13% of the votes in the online election held from the 26th until 6 p.m. on the 28th, defeating candidates Kang Chang-soo and Kim Hyun-hee. The voter turnout for this election was 69.21%.
At 39 years old, Park is the youngest and the first chairman in his 30s in JeonGyoJo history. He is also the first chairman to have been an elementary school teacher.
Yang Hye-jung, elected as secretary-general, previously served as the secretary of the Busan branch of JeonGyoJo and will become the first secretary-general to have been a special education teacher.
The term of office for both elected officials will be from January 1, next year, to December 31, 2026.
JeonGyoJo will hold a press conference at its headquarters on the 2nd of next month to announce their election victory remarks and key policy directions.
