Seoul Gwanak Police Station Arrests Two Men in Their 40s and 60s
On the 28th, the Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced that they had arrested two men involved in withdrawing voice phishing funds amounting to around 10 million won.
On the 26th, the police booked Mr. A, in his 40s, who attempted to exchange 12 million won at a bank in Gwanak-gu, and Mr. B, in his 60s, who tried to withdraw foreign currency worth about 7 million won at another bank, without detention on charges of violating the Act on the Prevention of Loss from Telecommunications Fraud.
They were caught after bank employees reported their suspicious behavior, as they failed to properly explain the source of the funds.
Investigations revealed that both individuals received instructions from a ringleader they met through social networking services (SNS). The ringleader approached them by promising to provide loans.
The police are currently identifying the ringleader’s identity and other details.
