Implementation of Residual Snow Removal Work to Prepare for Icing
Seoul Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 28th that it will urgently implement a comprehensive plan to prepare for ice formation caused by the record-breaking heavy snowfall that has continued for two days.
The district deployed a total of 33 snow removal vehicles, including multipurpose snowplows, dump trucks, and excavators, along with approximately 890 personnel to carry out snow removal operations on major roads in order to respond quickly and thoroughly to residents' inconveniences caused by the heavy snowfall.
Snow removal agents have been applied up to the 8th round, and residual snow removal work is being carried out to prepare for ice formation on shaded side roads where moisture remains, with two additional applications of snow removal agents planned. In addition, from the morning of the 28th, four pedestrian-only paths around construction sites, street facilities, and large construction sites have been inspected, and 50 temporary construction fences are currently being checked.
In particular, joint patrols were conducted with the Outdoor Advertising Association to inspect signboards. Measures have also been completed for places where drainage is poor due to a mixture of fallen leaves and residual snow in rainwater drains, as well as broken street trees. Patrols are being conducted on forest trails in mountainous areas and the Bongsan barrier-free forest path to ensure that residents do not suffer damage from the heavy snowfall.
The district plans to proactively respond to all disaster situations that may occur during heavy snowfall by fully mobilizing administrative resources, including frequent application of snow removal agents during snowfall and road icing, operation of mobile automatic brine sprayers, and reinforcement of snow removal personnel. Safety accident prevention guidelines will be provided in real time through Eunpyeong Alim Talk and social networking services (SNS).
District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “We are closely monitoring weather conditions to ensure there are no inconveniences for residents and are making every effort in residual snow removal to prepare for ice formation. We will thoroughly prepare to protect residents’ safety from winter disasters such as heavy snowfall and cold waves.”
