Outstanding Local Government Agency Awards and Four Meritorious Recipients Recognized
On the 28th, Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk held the ‘Visiting 2024 Yeongju City Gyeongbuk Love Fruit Merit Award Ceremony’ organized by the Gyeongbuk Community Chest of Korea.
At the event held at Yeongju City Hall, Mayor Park Nam-seo of Yeongju and Son Byung-il, Secretary General of the Gyeongbuk Community Chest, attended. Lee Do-kyung, an official from Anjeong-myeon Administrative Welfare Center, received the Gyeongbuk Governor’s Commendation, while Kwon Tae-yeop, CEO of Daebaek Mart Yeongju Branch, Kwon Hwa-ja of the Gyeongbuk Love Fruit Sharing Volunteer Group, and Lee Dong-woon each received the Gyeongbuk Community Chest Chairman’s Award.
Yeongju City received the ‘Hope 2024 Excellent Local Government Institution Commendation’ and secured a project fund of 20 million KRW. This fund will be used for the ‘Healthcare Support Project’ to promote the health of elderly people using senior centers through the Yeongju City Community Security Council.
During the event, a ‘Warm Winter Delivery Ceremony’ to support low-income households was also held. The Gyeongbuk Community Chest provides heating expenses to neighbors in need every year at the end of the year. This year, Yeongju City plans to support 820 low-income households with 150,000 KRW per household, totaling 123 million KRW in heating expenses.
According to the Gyeongbuk Community Chest, Yeongju City exceeded last year’s fundraising amount of 882 million KRW and recorded 939 million KRW this year (106.4% compared to the previous year), leading the spread of a culture of sharing.
Son Byung-il, Secretary General of the Gyeongbuk Community Chest of Korea, said, “We express our gratitude to the citizens of Yeongju who actively participate in the sharing campaign every year,” and added, “The Gyeongbuk Community Chest will continue to do its best to practice unwavering love and sharing for neighbors in need.”
Park Nam-seo, Mayor of Yeongju and the 7th Honor Society member of Yeongju, said, “This award ceremony was a meaningful occasion to spread the culture of sharing and donation in the region and to share the fruits of continuous efforts in the field of social welfare,” and added, “We will carry out various activities for the development of the local community and the culture of sharing.”
