Gwangjin-gu's Swift Response to Heavy Snow... Minimizing Resident Inconvenience

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) responded swiftly to the heavy snowfall, minimizing inconvenience to residents.

The snow that fell in Seoul on the 27th set the highest November snowfall record in 117 years since weather observations began. In Gwangjin-gu, 13.5 cm of snow accumulated over the past two days, prompting the activation of Snow Removal Plan Level 2 and the commencement of emergency duty.

To minimize inconvenience to residents, snow removal operations were carried out promptly from early dawn. The snow removal efforts involved ▲944 personnel including the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, environmental officers, community service centers, and district office staff ▲40 pieces of equipment such as Unimogs, dump trucks, and excavators ▲and 457 tons of materials including calcium chloride, salt, and aqueous solutions.

Snow accumulated on roads and sidewalks was quickly melted using snow removal equipment. Brine and calcium chloride were spread mainly on major arterial roads and vulnerable areas, and road heating cables installed at 32 habitual freezing spots were operated. For back roads and narrow alleys inaccessible to equipment, available manpower was mobilized to clear the snow.

Additionally, to encourage participation in ‘Clearing Snow in Front of Your Home or Store’ and to provide residents with emergency access, 110 snow removal boxes, 229 calcium chloride storage boxes, and 101 snow removal tool boxes were placed throughout the district.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “The first snow of the year fell more heavily than expected, so we anticipate significant inconvenience for residents. We will prioritize residents’ safety and carefully manage to prevent any damage caused by the heavy snowfall. We also ask all residents to familiarize themselves with heavy snow action guidelines and actively cooperate in ‘Clearing Snow in Front of Your Home.’”

Earlier, the district designated the snow removal period from November 15 for four months and has been operating the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, focusing all efforts on preventing safety accidents.
