Due to heavy snowfall, schools also 'close'... Over 1,200 schools closed in Seoul and Gyeonggi

Due to heavy snowfall continuing until the morning of the 28th, over 1,000 schools located in Gyeonggi Province adjusted their academic schedules, including school closures.


According to the Ministry of Education, as of 12 PM on the same day, a total of 1,285 schools in the Gyeonggi area decided to close. This includes 634 kindergartens, 447 elementary schools, 108 middle schools, 95 high schools, and 1 special school. In Seoul, Seoul Robot High School and Ilsin Girls' Middle and High School also closed that day.

There were 375 schools in Gyeonggi that adjusted their arrival and dismissal times. This includes 91 kindergartens, 83 elementary schools, 118 middle schools, 82 high schools, and 1 special school. In Seoul, 15 schools adjusted their arrival times, 5 schools adjusted dismissal times, and 14 schools adjusted both arrival and dismissal schedules.


The Ministry of Education explained that no serious casualties or facility damages occurred. Minor damages in the Gyeonggi area included 13 schools with fallen trees, 46 with damaged fences or canopies, and 8 schools experiencing power outages. In Seoul, 18 schools had outdoor facility damages, and 2 schools experienced leaks.


An official from the Ministry of Education stated, "We will continue to carry out emergency duty with the situation management task force and monitor the damage situation continuously."
