'On Two Feet! Practice Walking 先DO!'

The Yeoju City Public Health Center in Gyeonggi Province has been promoting the "2024 Yeoju City Walking Excellence Department Competition" since May to create a health walking boom led by public officials. During the preparation for the Excellence Department Competition, one health leader was selected from each department to provide proper walking education, and from July to October, a "Regular Walking Practice" WalkOn challenge was conducted. A total of 50 departments participated in this competition, and the number of Yeoju City government employees registered in the walking community increased nearly fourfold, from 230 as of January 1, 2024, to 938. Additionally, a total of 500 people participated in the Regular Walking Practice challenge, showing high interest.

The selection of excellent departments was comprehensively evaluated based on participation rates and practice activities, resulting in the selection of six departments: the Technology Planning Division, the Forest Park Division, the Council Secretariat Division, the Health Administration Division, the Resource Circulation Division, and the Urban Planning Division. An awards ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Yeoju City monthly meeting on December 2.

Gil Hyeran, Director of Health Promotion at the Yeoju City Public Health Center, said, “This walking competition was a meaningful opportunity for public officials to lead by example in practicing healthy lifestyle habits and to spread a walking culture together with citizens.” She added, “We will continue to do our best to create a walking-friendly environment and promote citizens’ health.”
