Gyeonggi Northern Biohealth Hub Development Officially 'Starts'
Mayor Kim Kyung-il: "We Will Establish a Foundation to Transform Gyeonggi North into a Biohealth Hub City"

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 28th that the construction company for the Paju Medical Cluster development project, a long-awaited project for building a general hospital, has been confirmed, marking the official start of establishing a bio-health hub in northern Gyeonggi.

The Paju Medical Cluster development project is a key initiative of Paju City, promoted by a public-private special purpose company (SPC) with investment from Paju Urban Tourism Corporation. The project aims to build a medical cluster on approximately 136,000 pyeong of land in the Seopaedong 432 area, including comprehensive medical facilities, an innovative medical research complex (such as the National Cancer Center Future Innovation Center), and a bio convergence complex.

Recently, large-scale development projects nationwide have rapidly decreased due to worsening project viability caused by rising construction and material costs and interest rates since the second half of 2022, along with uncertainties from various risks such as unsold units. However, with the participation of a construction company despite the challenging market environment, this project is expected to accelerate rapidly.

Paju City plans to start with project implementation approval (execution plan approval) in December, complete land acquisition by the first half of next year, commence site development construction, and actively prepare for a hospital recruitment contest to attract a general hospital, aiming to finalize the hospital recruitment by the end of next year.

Additionally, centered on the National Cancer Center Future Innovation Center, the city plans to attract promising domestic and international companies in the medical and life sciences fields and collaborate with outstanding overseas universities to become a global bio cluster, serving as a foothold for investment attraction and overseas market entry.

Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju said, “Despite the unforeseen adversity of the real estate market downturn, I thank the residents who have actively cooperated and understood the situation so far. We will surely lead this project to success and establish a foundation for Paju City to leap forward as a bio-health hub city in northern Gyeonggi.”
