Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) has issued an emergency call for all employees due to heavy snowfall.

According to the city on the 28th, a record-breaking snowfall of 43.7 cm fell in Gwangju from 10 p.m. on the 26th to 7 a.m. on the 28th.

Accordingly, the city issued an emergency call for all employees at 6:30 a.m. on the 28th, held an urgent countermeasure meeting presided over by Mayor Bang Se-hwan, and began a swift response.


Mayor Bang received reports on the damage situation and snow removal measures and discussed △ the status of snow removal on major arterial roads △ snow removal measures for vulnerable points such as side streets and slopes △ reception and handling plans for citizen inconveniences △ preparations for additional snowfall.


In particular, snow removal efforts will be strengthened focusing on traffic congestion areas and locations with a high risk of accidents.


The city mobilized about 200 vehicles and 150 personnel to spread 2,380 tons of snow removal agents on major roads and conducted overnight snow removal work. A total of 123 damage reports were received, including road obstacles and fallen trees.


Mayor Bang Se-hwan stated, “We will concentrate all our capabilities to minimize citizen inconvenience caused by the heavy snowfall,” and urged, “We must minimize damage through inspections of vulnerable areas and promotion of actions to take during heavy snow and cold waves.”


Meanwhile, the city is maintaining a 24-hour emergency duty system centered on the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to respond to this heavy snowfall.
