3 Billion KRW Funding... Expected Influx of Young Population

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) was finally selected for the second half of the year following the first half in the '2024 Jeonnam-style Youth Village Creation' contest project.

The 'Jeonnam-style Youth Village Creation Project' aims to activate the influx of young people by having youth proactively solve youth issues using local resources and coexist and cooperate with local residents.

The selected youth organization, 'ExtenB', is a preliminary social enterprise that will create the 'Resting Village Growing Together with Youth' in the Gunja-dong area and will receive 300 million KRW in project funds over two years.

They plan to remodel a 100-year-old traditional house to create a unique youth complex cultural space combining traditional and modern elements, and operate experience programs such as K-Dessert tasting and plogging that local residents, youth, and visitors can all enjoy.

Additionally, they will support discovering startup items using local specialties and producing an online youth magazine (promotional material), and provide entrepreneurship capacity-building education to help youth settle stably.

The city plans to enhance the project’s completeness by supplementing the project plan through expert on-site consulting (counseling) and organizing youth village activity spaces by December.

A city official said, “Young people are bringing new changes to the region on their own,” and added, “We will actively support youth so that they can grow together with the region in line with the purpose of creating youth villages.”
