On the 28th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), and Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) announced this at the ‘Future New Center Yongsan International Business District Development Briefing’ held at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
The project implementers, including the government, Seoul city, and KORAIL, plan to make the Yongsan International Business District and the Yongsan Park area a pedestrian-centered zone where transportation, walking, greenery, and culture intersect. First, a three-dimensional pedestrian network connecting the International Business District, Yongsan Station, and Yongsan Park will be established. A landmark will be created in the ground-level space at the entrance to Yongsan Park, and a large-scale pedestrian cultural space will be developed underground. The promenade boundary connecting Yongsan Park and the surrounding area will also be improved. An underground transfer passage to enhance accessibility between the International Business District and public transportation, as well as an integrated space to improve railway transfer convenience, will be created.
A plan for the development of Yongsan Park, suitable for the Yongsan International Business District development, was also announced. The Yongsan Park development project involves converting the returned site of the U.S. military base in Korea into a national park. The government and the city have decided to develop Yongsan Park as a symbolic ‘open park.’ Some of the already opened returned sites will be activated as key spaces of Yongsan Park, and partial opening of the returned Yongsan base site will be expanded. Within Yongsan Park, attractions will be created to enhance global recognition, and renewable energy technologies will be expanded to contribute to carbon neutrality.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the city announced that they will actively cooperate in establishing the park development plan so that Yongsan Park and the International Business District can coexist and grow together, and will provide opportunities for active communication with the public.
