Gyeryong City Implements Citizen Jury System for Transparent Pledge Fulfillment

Gyeryong City Implements Citizen Jury System for Transparent Pledge Fulfillment

Gyeryong City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 28th that it will implement a citizen jury system to ensure transparent and systematic fulfillment of the pledges made under the 8th popularly elected administration.

The citizen jury system is designed to enhance communication with residents regarding city administration by allowing citizens to participate in the process of fulfilling pledges and to incorporate their suggestions into policy implementation.

The Korea Manifesto Implementation Headquarters selected 20 jurors by conducting random telephone interviews via ARS with local residents aged 18 or older, considering factors such as gender and age, and the city officially appointed them on the 20th.

On the 27th, the city conducted an in-depth review of the implementation status of the 8th administration’s pledges and the appropriateness of this year’s proposed adjustments to those pledges.

The city also explained the detailed progress and any adjustments to the jurors.

The citizen jury will deliberate on the appropriateness of the pledges and action plans on December 11 and will finalize their decisions thereafter.

Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, “Through the citizen jury system, we expect not only to promote citizen participation in city administration but also to ensure objectivity and transparency in our operations. We will do our utmost to fulfill the pledges we made to our citizens.”
