Development of Cultural Walking Routes Within Approximately 3 Hours to Promote Daily Walking and Healthy Habits
Contributing to Increased Understanding and Attachment to Yeongdeungpo's Key Cultural Tourist Sites
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) Public Health Center announced that it successfully operated the “Small Walks with Stories” program, which introduces the district’s history and major cultural tourist attractions to local residents and encourages walking practice.
This program helps participants learn about the history and cultural heritage related to Yeongdeungpo-gu with a cultural commentator, enjoy natural scenery and the Han River night view, and discover new charms of Yeongdeungpo.
It also developed easily accessible cultural walking course routes so that residents can practice walking in their daily lives and form healthy lifestyle habits, contributing to enhancing understanding and attachment to local culture.
The Public Health Center set themes for each course and arranged different exploration routes and times each session to allow participants to experience both the daytime and nighttime charms of Yeongdeungpo. Through this, it attracted diverse resident participation and made walking more interesting and accessible.
The walking courses were diversely composed as follows: ▲Yeongdeungpo Downtown Cultural Tour (Yeongdeungpo Station → Dangsan Station) ▲Yeongdeungpo Retro Sentimental Tour (Yangpyeong Station → Mullae Station) ▲Han River Night View Tour (Yangpyeong Station → Seonyudo Park Rainbow Bridge) ▲Han River Yeouido Exploration Tour (Dangsan Station → Yeouido Station) ▲Han River Sunset Tour (Singil Station → Yeouinaru Station). Especially, all courses allowed participants to walk while listening to stories from cultural commentators, discovering new enjoyment in familiar spaces.
A resident who participated in the “Small Walks with Stories” program said, “Although I walk this path every day, with the added commentary, Yeongdeungpo looks new and I have come to love it more,” expressing satisfaction by adding, “I hope the program becomes more active so that many residents can feel the hidden charms of Yeongdeungpo.”
This program was held five times in total until November this year, with an average of 35 residents participating per session. According to a survey, 90% of participants highly evaluated the usefulness of the content, and all expressed willingness to participate again.
Going forward, the Public Health Center plans to continuously improve the program by reflecting residents’ opinions and expand it to help district residents maintain a healthy lifestyle. For detailed information about the program, inquiries can be made to the Infectious Disease Control Division of the Public Health Center.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “This program is a meaningful opportunity for residents to understand the area more deeply and take care of their health through walking,” adding, “We will continue to support residents to maintain a healthy lifestyle by discovering various physical activity programs utilizing local natural attractions such as Anyangcheon and Seonyudo.”
