Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the ‘Sarangbang Beauty Salon’ near Yeongdeungpo Station is operating successfully as a win-win project, providing quality jobs and affordable hairdressing services to local senior citizens.
The ‘Sarangbang Beauty Salon’ is part of a market-type senior job project managed by the Yeongdeungpo-gu branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association. While offering professional services comparable to any other beauty salon, it holds special significance in creating quality jobs by utilizing the experience and talents of senior citizens.
The Sarangbang Beauty Salon is operated by 20 seniors aged 60 and above, generating revenue while providing affordable hairdressing services to low-income elderly residents in the area.
Haircuts cost 5,000 won, coloring 9,000 won, and perms 12,000 won, easing the financial burden on seniors while helping those participating in the jobs to earn stable income and maintain healthy bodies and minds.
In particular, the Sarangbang Beauty Salon serves not only as a place for hairdressing services but also as a community space where socially isolated seniors can interact. A lounge area is provided for customers, allowing seniors to gather in small groups, chat, and build social networks.
Grandmother Kim, a regular customer living in Yeongdeungpo-dong, said, “It’s great to get my hair done at an affordable price, but the fun of talking with the owners here is even greater. When I chat, time flies, and my day becomes enjoyable. I hope more places like Sarangbang Beauty Salon will appear in the future,” expressing her satisfaction.
The Sarangbang Beauty Salon operates by reservation from Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Currently, the district is recruiting senior job participants to work at the Sarangbang Beauty Salon from December 2 to December 20, selecting a total of 20 people. For reservations and inquiries about participation, contact the Korea Senior Citizens Association Yeongdeungpo-gu branch.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “The Sarangbang Beauty Salon is a win-win project that provides jobs for seniors while offering affordable hairdressing services,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create various jobs where seniors can utilize their experience and talents to coexist with their neighbors.”
