The awardees were one person each in nine categories: Kim Ji-yeon (Secretary General of the Gyeonggi Gwangju Branch of the Korea Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations) in the culture and arts category; Shin Yu-ri (President of the Gwangju City Daycare Association) in education; Park Jeong-seon (Swimming Instructor at Gwangju City G-Sports Club) in sports; Yang Mi-soon (President of the Gwangju City Women's Association) in community service; Han Bong-hoon (Chief of Gwangju Fire Station) in regional safety; Kim Seon-gyeong (Team Leader of the Taxation Team, Taxation Division) in administration; Yoon Seok-il (Representative of the Tax Corporation Nara Gyeonggi Gwangju Branch) in regional economy; So Su-mi (Gwangju Branch of the Gyeonggi Eastern Chapter of the National Nature Conservation Association) in environmental preservation; and Lee Man-ho (Head of the National Daily Newspaper Headquarters) in media.
Chairman Heo Kyung-haeng expressed gratitude and congratulations to the awardees, saying, "True contributors who have quietly worked in their respective positions to develop Gwangju City and have strived for the advancement of the council have been selected for the council awards," and asked for their continued interest and cooperation for the development of the local community and the council.
Meanwhile, the Gwangju City Council Awards, which select and honor citizens and public officials who have contributed to the development of the local community and the council, began in 2005 and marked its 16th anniversary this year.
