Province Utilizes Disaster Relief Fund... Full Support for Accommodation and Meal Expenses
On the 27th, as a heavy snow warning was issued for the Seoul metropolitan area, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon ordered the emergency evacuation of residents living in vulnerable facilities such as vinyl greenhouses. The province plans to cover all expenses, including accommodation costs, for those undergoing emergency evacuation.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon instructed Safety Management Director Lee Jong-don, “From today (the 27th) until tomorrow morning (the 28th), heavy snowfall is forecasted in Gyeonggi Province. Take emergency evacuation measures for residents living in vulnerable vinyl greenhouses and aging facilities.”
Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province immediately ordered the 31 cities and counties to conduct rapid on-site inspections and evacuation measures before sunset through official letters.
It is estimated that about 5,500 people live in 2,700 vinyl greenhouses within the province.
The province plans to fully support accommodation and meal expenses from the Gyeonggi Province Disaster Relief Fund for residents who need to evacuate due to heavy snow and move to nearby motels or other lodging facilities. Accommodation costs will be supported up to 70,000 KRW per day, and meal costs up to 9,000 KRW per meal.
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi area experienced the heaviest snowfall in November since weather observations began. As of 4 p.m. on the 27th, an average of 15.5 cm was recorded, including 27.9 cm in Gunpo and 27.4 cm in Uiwang, with additional snow forecasted until tomorrow.
Gyeonggi Province raised the emergency level of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters from Level 1 to Level 2 as of 2 p.m. on the 27th to respond to the heavy snow situation. The province urged people to use public transportation and be cautious of slip-and-fall accidents on snowy roads, as the commute home is expected to be slippery due to the heavy snow.
