Incheon Airport Customs Seizes Smuggling, 10-Month Intensive Investigation
Mass Prosecution of 'Jjogaegi' Distribution
A group operating a drug sales channel on Telegram and selling drugs worth about 140 million KRW has been collectively brought to trial.
On the 27th, the Special Investigation Team for Drug Crimes at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Team Leader Kim Bo-seong, Head of the Violent Crime Investigation Division) indicted Yoon (43), the mastermind operating the Telegram drug sales channel, Lee (32), the deputy mastermind, and Shin and Kang, who acted as transporters and distributors (known as droppers), all under charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Additionally, individuals who provided burner phones and bank accounts to them, as well as those who purchased drugs from them, will face trial without detention. The prosecution conducted an intensive investigation over about 10 months into the smuggling case of 526 MDMA (commonly known as Ecstasy) pills seized by Incheon Airport Customs last January.
Specifically, dropper Shin conspired with the channel operators and imported 526 MDMA pills from Germany via international postal service on January 1st, which was intercepted. Starting with Shin’s arrest and indictment, the prosecution analyzed his mobile phone and call records, leading to the arrest and indictment of mastermind Yoon and deputy mastermind Lee in March. By analyzing Yoon’s mobile phone, they apprehended another dropper, Kang, who was indicted in custody in July. The individuals who provided burner phones and bank accounts were also identified and indicted without detention.
The investigation revealed that they intended to distribute 2,000 MDMA pills, about 380 ml of synthetic marijuana, LSD, and ketamine. Among these, the prosecution seized drugs worth approximately 148.14 million KRW, including 1,747 MDMA pills, 283 ml of synthetic marijuana, 10.54 g of methamphetamine, and 62 sheets of LSD.
