Major Arterial Roads Snow Removal Conducted for Smooth Traffic Flow During Commute
Resident Evacuation and Hazard Area Control Implemented Upon Detection of Danger Signs
On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province issued a heavy snow warning for 12 cities and counties including Suwon, and a heavy snow advisory for the other 19 cities and counties. With forecasts predicting continuous heavy snowfall, the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters raised the emergency response level from Level 1 to Level 2 as of 2 p.m.
At Emergency Level 2, the situation management team leader is upgraded from team leader to the head of the Natural Disaster Division, and the number of personnel on duty is expanded to 25 to conduct emergency operations and respond to the heavy snow situation.
Specifically, ▲strengthening snow removal work on major arterial roads to ensure smooth vehicle traffic during the evening commute ▲conducting follow-up snow removal in frequently used areas such as alleys, major side streets, and bus stops by utilizing village snow removal teams including autonomous disaster prevention groups ▲implementing resident evacuation and control of dangerous areas through an emergency communication system with local fire and police departments when warning signs of danger arise.
Gyeonggi Province urged residents to use public transportation and be cautious of slip-and-fall accidents on snowy roads, as the evening commute is expected to be slippery due to heavy snowfall. It also emphasized immediate evacuation from vulnerable structures such as vinyl greenhouses where accumulated snow poses a risk of collapse.
Earlier, the province activated Emergency Level 1 at the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters from 11 p.m. on the 26th. Governor Kim Dong-yeon sent an urgent official letter to cities and counties that morning, ordering thorough preventive safety management for residents through proactive situation control in preparation for the first snowfall, preemptive snow removal work to prevent road congestion and safety accidents during commuting hours, and strict management of disaster-prone areas such as structures vulnerable to snow accumulation.
