More than 300 people, including large corporations such as POSCO Group companies, Hyundai Construction, and Hoban Group, about 40 startups related to secondary battery materials and hydrogen, venture investment institutions, and citizens, attended the event.
Held under the slogan “The Mecca for Startup Leap Toward the Future, Gwangyang City!”, the event was divided into four areas: ▲Presentation of Gwangyang City-POSCO’s secondary battery materials and hydrogen industry development strategies ▲Startup exhibition booths ▲Business consultations with large corporations and venture capital investment consultations ▲Invited lectures ▲National student robot idea competition.
Ten startups in the hydrogen, secondary battery, and robotics sectors operated their own promotional exhibition booths and introduced the solutions and products they developed to large corporations and investment institutions participating in the conference.
In the invited lecture, Sangyong Ha, head of the Gwangju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, gave a talk on ways to revitalize local startups. He previously founded ‘Big Mart,’ the first warehouse-style discount store in the Gwangju area, and is an expert in venture investment who has continued investment attraction activities through the Gwangju Venture Forum and the Startup Support Network Corporation.
At the business consultation booths, POSCO-related group companies such as POSCO Holdings, POSCO E&C, POSCO Future M, POSCO DX, and HY Clean Metal, as well as large corporations including Hyundai Construction and Hoban Group, participated to provide business-related consultations for startups.
Venture investment institutions such as POSCO Technology Investment, FuturePlay, Inlight Ventures, and Y&Archer also engaged in direct investment consultations, providing a venue where startups that usually face difficulties in attracting investment or lack related information could create new business opportunities.
The national student robot idea competition was held simultaneously at the venue. The originality and applicability of the technology, as well as the feasibility of commercialization, were comprehensively evaluated, and outstanding teams were awarded prize money, providing an opportunity for innovative ideas from high school and university students to shine.
In his greeting, Mayor Inhwa Jeong of Gwangyang City said, “The holding of the Gwangyang Startup Conference is an ambitious first step for our Gwangyang to leap forward as Jeollanam-do’s number one venture city and, furthermore, as a city favorable for startups. We expect an ecosystem will be created where companies in strategic industries such as secondary battery materials and the hydrogen industry can establish themselves.”
