Visiting Changwon Special City to Build Networks with Czech Republic for Expanding Participation of Local Nuclear Power Companies in Exports
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, will host a meeting on the 29th by inviting the 9th Czech-Korean Forum for the Future to promote international cooperation and exchange in the nuclear power sector with the Czech Republic.
This visit to Changwon was arranged through cooperation between the Czech-Korean Forum for the Future and Changwon City to support the export of Czech nuclear power plants as part of private diplomatic assistance. The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Citizen Hall of Changwon Special City Hall, with 19 key figures attending, including the chairpersons of the Czech-Korean Forum for the Future from both countries, the Czech Ambassador to Korea, and representatives of nuclear power companies in Changwon.
The event will begin with a welcoming speech by Mayor Hong, followed by remarks from the Czech chairperson of the Czech-Korean Forum for the Future, Jan Fischer (former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic), and the Korean vice-chairperson, Moon Ha-young (former Czech Ambassador). The session will continue with a greeting from Choi Jae-ho, Chairman of the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representing the Changwon industrial sector.
Regarding the export of Czech nuclear power plants, Mayor Hong personally visited Doosan ?koda Power, a leading European turbine manufacturer located in Plze?, Czech Republic, to discuss cooperation plans and urged increasing the participation of Changwon nuclear power companies.
Furthermore, Mayor Hong plans to promote friendly cooperation with local governments in the Czech Republic based on the judgment that comprehensive cooperation, including industry, talent development, and workforce exchange, is necessary for local governments to support nuclear power plant exports.
Mayor Hong Nampyo stated, “Discovering local partner companies is of utmost importance to expand the participation of Changwon companies in the construction of new nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic. This meeting, following my previous business trip to the Czech Republic, lays the foundation for establishing a network between Changwon and the Czech Republic. We will strive to identify companies and cities that can serve as footholds for local companies to enter the European market in the future.”
He added, “The visit of prominent Czech figures, including the former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, to Changwon City Hall is a great opportunity to strengthen the local government-level diplomacy that the city aims to pursue. I directly communicated with the Czech-Korean Forum for the Future to make this meeting possible.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Hong achieved notable results last year by promoting friendly cooperation with Pozna? City in Poland to support the defense industry through local government-level diplomacy in the defense sector.
The Czech-Korean Forum for the Future has been held alternately in both countries every year since 2015 with the support of the foreign ministries of both countries. Its purpose is to promote and support cooperation in various fields such as economy, investment, education, and culture through regular exchanges among key figures.
