Graduate of Political Science and Diplomacy, Retired Ambassador to Tanzania
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 27th that Professor Song Geum-young of the Graduate School of International Studies (former Ambassador to Tanzania) has published a book titled "The Ukraine War and the Korean Peninsula."
Professor Song Geum-young, an alumnus of Dong-A University's Department of Political Science and Diplomacy with both bachelor's and master's degrees, passed the 24th Foreign Service Examination in 1990 and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Over 28 years, he mainly worked on Russia and CIS affairs. Starting as a secretary at the Russian Embassy in the 1990s, he served at embassies in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Ireland, and the Consulate General in Los Angeles, USA.
He retired as Ambassador to Tanzania in 2018 and has been nurturing future scholars at his alma mater since March 2022. He is also active as a senior expert at the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Subtitled "The Collapse of the Unipolar System in the Post-Cold War Era and the Transition to Multipolarity," this book is composed of eight sections covering understanding Russia's foreign policy, the impact of the Ukraine war on the Korean Peninsula and the international order, prospects for the end of the war, and more.
In this book, the author quickly investigates the post-war circumstances amid the global transformation we face, while presenting various issues regarding the international order and offering sharp diagnoses.
As someone who has served in embassies in former Soviet regions such as Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and as Ambassador to Tanzania, the author incorporates the latest statistical data on the current war situation between Russia and Ukraine, economic growth rates, and trade volumes to aid understanding of international politics and economics.
The author stated, "Since the outcome of the Ukraine war is closely linked to the direction of the world order, this war will also have considerable effects on the Korean Peninsula. Through the extensive discussions in this book, I firmly believe readers will be able to envision the upcoming new era and the restructured order, as well as gain more useful information on the North Korean nuclear issue and security on the Korean Peninsula."
