‘Nomination Interference Allegation’ Myeong Taegyun, Will He Be Released... Request for Detention Review Filed

Myeong Taegyun, who is currently under detention investigation as a key figure in allegations of interference in candidate selection and illegal opinion polling, has filed a detention review petition with the court.

The Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam announced that it will hold a detention review hearing at around 4 p.m. on the 27th, following a petition submitted by Myeong's side the previous day on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.

A detention review is a procedure in which a detained suspect requests the court to re-examine the legality of the detention, and a decision to dismiss or release is made within 24 hours after the hearing.

Myeong was previously detained on the 14th due to concerns over evidence tampering.

Earlier, the prosecution requested an arrest warrant for Myeong on the 11th, stating, "He distorted public opinion by engaging in political activities in a position equivalent to that of a member of the National Assembly and seriously undermined the transparency of political funds," and added, "Through this, he also gained economic benefits, directly damaging the representative democracy system stipulated by the Constitution."

The arrest warrant for Myeong has been extended once and is valid until December 3.
