AI Autonomous Manufacturing Promotion... A New Paradigm for the Future of Manufacturing Industry
Busan City and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, Director Kim Young-bu) held the "5th Busan Future Technology Innovation Forum of 2024" on the 26th at the Hotel Nongshim Sapphire Hall, under the theme "Innovative Plans and Challenges for Promoting AI Autonomous Manufacturing in Busan's Manufacturing Industry."
About 70 participants from industry, academia, and research related to AI autonomous manufacturing, including BISTEP Director Kim Young-bu and Busan city officials, attended the forum to discuss ways to advance AI autonomous manufacturing technology.
The forum began with an opening address by BISTEP Director Kim Young-bu, followed by expert presentations and discussions.
Director Kim Young-bu stated, "I hope to confirm the potential that AI autonomous manufacturing integration can bring to Busan's manufacturing industry and that the diverse insights proposed by experts from various fields will become valuable assets leading the future of Busan's manufacturing."
The keynote presentation was delivered by Kim Sung-ho, Head of the Korea Institute for Industrial Technology Evaluation and Planning, under the theme "AI Autonomous Manufacturing Strategy 1.0 for the Great Transformation of Core Industries," explaining the direction, policy tasks, implementation plans, and projects for promoting AI autonomous manufacturing in Korea.
Following this, Song Byung-hoon, Center Director of the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, introduced the definition and core concepts of autonomous manufacturing, the status and expected effects of regional leading projects, and industry-specific autonomous manufacturing trends under the theme "Regional Specialized AI Autonomous Manufacturing Promotion Strategy for AI-based Production Advancement and Future Response in Manufacturing."
BISTEP Team Leader Won Jun-hee presented cases of Busan city’s research and development projects planned based on the current status, conditions, and challenges related to AI autonomous manufacturing in Busan.
The discussion was chaired by Professor Kim Ho-won of Pusan National University, with participants including Head Kim Sung-ho, Center Director Song Byung-hoon, Senior Research Fellow Koo Yoon-mo of the Busan Research Institute, Center Director Son Dong-seop of the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence, Professor Yoo Nam-hyun of Gyeongnam National University, and Team Leader Yoon Sung-hwan of DRB Automation. They discussed the limitations and challenges of integrating AI autonomous manufacturing into Busan’s manufacturing industry and practical measures to overcome them.
In October, Busan City signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for the AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project" with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Through this, Busan plans to foster AI autonomous manufacturing as a strategic industry and focus on the aviation industry as an AI autonomous manufacturing technology task, investing 31.2 billion KRW (8.7 billion KRW national funds, 17.6 billion KRW city funds, 4.9 billion KRW private funds) to accelerate the development of strategic industries such as autonomous manufacturing in traditional manufacturing.
