Operating a 24-Hour System for Heavy Snow Response... Mayor Joo Gwang-deok: "Citizen Safety is the Top Priority"

Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) held an emergency countermeasure meeting chaired by Mayor Joo Gwang-deok on the 27th to respond swiftly to the heavy snowfall following the issuance of a heavy snow advisory.

This meeting was organized to minimize citizen inconvenience and traffic congestion caused by the heavy snow and to enhance the efficiency of snow removal operations.


During the meeting, the following were discussed: △ current status of snow removal on major arterial roads △ snow removal measures for vulnerable points such as side roads and slopes △ reception and handling plans for citizen complaints △ preparation status for additional snowfall. In particular, it was decided to strengthen snow removal operations focusing on traffic congestion areas and regions with a high risk of accidents.


Immediately after the heavy snow advisory was issued, Namyangju City Hall’s Citizen Safety Officer, Road Facilities Management Division, various departments, and 391 employees from eup, myeon, and dong offices began emergency duty to prepare for the snow, conducting snow removal operations on major arterial roads and village streets.


Mayor Joo Gwang-deok stated, “It is necessary to respond quickly and systematically to ensure that citizens’ safety and convenience of life are not threatened by this heavy snowfall,” and added, “We must minimize citizen damage through safety measures considerate of vulnerable traffic groups, inspection of vulnerable areas, and promotion of heavy snow and cold wave action guidelines.”


He further emphasized, “While ensuring that emergency workers responding to the heavy snowfall can work systematically, utmost care must be taken to manage the safety of the staff.”


Namyangju City is maintaining a 24-hour emergency duty system centered on the Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters to respond to this heavy snowfall and is inspecting equipment and resources in preparation for additional snowfall.
